LaRay’s Literacy Corner understands the importance of reading. We also understand the importance of having a solid foundation in order to build excitement, joy, and love for reading. LaRay’s Literacy Corner will get in on the ground floor of learning. The early stages, Pre-K – 6 year olds, is a very important time in a young reader’s development. Children are learning to make connections between letters and sounds (phonemic awareness). Children learn how letters work together to make sounds which work together to make words. Of course, those words work together to make sentences which allows one to read. LaRay’s Literacy Corner wants to build off classroom learning and support it by helping students to develop a passion for reading.

In our vast experience in the classroom, at varying grade levels, we have found that enjoying the material makes it more enjoyable to learn. LaRay’s Literacy Corner aims to capture the imagination of our young readers through fun, age-appropriate books, humor, puppets and positivity. They will not only enjoy themselves, but they will be learning in the process. This is a time for young readers to develop an excitement for reading. Reading is the foundation of learning and reading comprehension skills are the gateway to learning in school and beyond.
